IPL 2022 Mega Auction Date & Player Retention Rule

According to some media reports, the mega auction of IPL 2022 will be held in Chennai in the second week of December 2021. Notably, the addition of 2 new teams brought many changes to the retention policy and rules. In terms of retention, a franchise can hold a maximum of 4 players and not more than a few overseas players.

This leaves the franchisor ideally with a 3+1 or 2+2 combination, in which the franchisee can choose to have 3 local and 1 foreign player or 2 local and 2 foreign players. The retention date is November 30 as the franchises will have to submit their list to the IPL Steering Committee by the last day of November.
